I recently experienced the agony of a child painfully traveling through the unwarranted progress of the flu! My two-year old was dehydrated and the only thing he desired was water. Through his fatigue he would mutter “agua” ~ water. He knew that if he would have a sip of water, it would quench his suffering. HIs vulnerability instantly reminded me that Jesus desires for us, his believers to enter his kingdom as children (Mark 10:15). It was so simple to my toddler, drink water equals satisfaction which equals health which equals he would feel better...you know where I’m going with this…
Have you tasted from the well of the Spirit this week? How much have you had to drink? A sip, a chug, a guzzle? Time after time scripture teaches that when there is anguish or sorrow or distress, the answer is to quench the pain by drinking water. There is peace granted as we drink water and wash away any form of anxiety. Hagar was a broken woman, running with her child, her heart was heavy and the Lord opened her eyes and refreshed her with water (Gen 21:18-20). The Israelites felt physically weary and complained for water, therefore, out of the Rock, Moses drew water for not just one person but a nation of people (Exodus 17). The Samaritan woman recognized that her Saviour would quench all her misery if she drank ‘living water” in John 4.
